5: the great outdoors

I live in a sleeply little paese (town) in Northern Italy nestled into the Colli Berici, a group of hills in the province of Vicenza, that magically comes to life during the weekends in the warmer months with both local visitors and those from afar alike who all have a common interest: the great outdoors.

You can find trail after trail throughout the hills in our area.
Trails for biking. Trails for hiking.
Easy hikes. Difficult hikes.
Hikes with caves. Hikes with history.

The hikes often offer spectular views.
This easy path starts at the cemetery on the hill in Lumignano and goes clear across to Castegnero.

While we attract hikers, we also attract rock climbers. . . in droves. See them up there on the rocks? I can sit on my front patio and see them, hear them as they scale the walls. In October we watched a helicopter rescue of a fallen climber.

If this doesn't inspire a little time in the great outdoors, I wonder what might.

It's beautiful. I just find it amazing how similar a landscape it's my own outdoors, right down to the rocks. I don't know your part of Italy at all, except from your blog:)!

That is soooo beautiful!
I´m really afraid of heights so can I sit next to you on the patio and just watch others do the climbing. I would be perfectly happy! ;)
Have a great day, Jeannette
