Though there seems to be hundreds of bright orange signs posted up and down Riviera Berica, and there is even a little book detailing daily events, I have yet to find the details of the upcoming sagra posted anywhere on the Internet. Ughh!
There are more details than I am currently willing to type, so here is the skinny; the dates are 15,16,17,22,23,24,25 May.
Each evening the food starts being served at 18:30 and lunch on Sundays at 12:30. Expect to find things like (and I quote) "risi e bisi, lasagne coi bisi, coessin coi bisi, arrosto coi bisi, poenta e formaio, poenta e sopressa, patatine fritte, prosecco, vini DOC dei Colli Berici, birra all spina." The usual sagra fare, with peas. I had some peas Sunday. Good stuff. (Note: This is coming from someone who does not like peas, even with a roux.)
A Slow Food dinner event takes place on the evening of 20 May. Call 335-721-6186 before 17 May for a reservation; we hope to make it.
With a 240 (square meter ?) dance floor, each evening offers some type of live entertainment that generally begins at 21:00. If you've only ever gone for the food, I suggest you stick around for the entertainment for a peak into this part of Italian culture.
There are at least a couple of exhibitions in the old church - one of which is the art of Longare's own Ezio Fantin called "Paesaggio berico tra idea e realta." I'm not sure if it will be for sale -- originals or prints -- that could be nice. It's likely just a show, but wouldn't it be exciting enough to meet the artist?
Don't forget to visit the "Grande Pesca di Beneficenza" where your little raffle ticket could win you anything from a box of toothpicks to a microwave oven. This is another experience that awaits you in Lumignano.
"L'Eremo di San Cassiano" will remain open on both Sundays. Hiking path #3 is the easiest route.
The walk/run takes place 25 May.
Both peas and cherries will be available for purchase.
Phew. . . .that's much more than I intended to write. Matteo has the little books (mostly filled with advertisements) at his store; stop in and pick one up, if you like.
The proceeds go to the church. Hope to see you there :)
