Lunch & Entertainment -- Agriturismo Style

Our surrounding area is filled with lots agriturismi. Generally, an agriturismo is a working farm with crops or livestock, or at times both, that offers some type of lodging (from the whole farm house to a basic room) and possibly board. They sometimes include full service restaurants that typically serve up seasonal local products but often only on the weekends.

Recently we ventured to La Campagnola in nearby Montegaldella for a Sunday lunch, on the advice of a neighbor -- and as it turns out, with that neighbor family. Among other appetizing offerings, we enjoyed the pappardelle con lepre, or rabbit pasta.

The food is basic and fresh, but it is not varied. You get what they got. Period. No menu. Not many choices. Any choices are recited aloud & you are to decide on the spot.

The girls were treated to a bit of time with le mucce.

Mr. Duncan and I spent our first-ever getaway together at an agriturismo called Borgo Giusto in the hills above Lucca -- back in the good ole days before the arrival of the demanding third member of the Party of 3, back in the time that getaways were romantic (or, really, even possible).

I love pappardelle! My kids hate them though: they think it's freakish to have pasta that wide - considering that the local pasta variety is the twisted skinny trofie, I can sort of see their point of view:)

Hey -- as long as it's fresh pasta, then it's okay by me. :)
