More Money?

When we signed the contract for the house, we handed over a hefty sum of money with the understanding that the remaining balance would be due upon delivery of the house. This week Massimo (the realtor we haven't heard from in months after paying his fee) called to pass on the message that Ghiotto wants/needs some more money. Huh? My reaction was -- no way! We really need our available cash to pay other debts associated with the house. Richard, on the other hand, thinks it's important to keep him happy, help him out, show good faith. . . so that the house will be completed in a timely manner. We agreed on offering 5000 Euro. Richard called Ghiotto, who requested 10,000 Euro (my) -- but quickly and readily accepted the 5000 when Richard offered it. Is it a wise thing to do? Only time will tell. Either way it is deducted from the total that we owe him upon delivery. The current exchange rate is .62 -- ouch!
