NaBloPoMo

I was over visiting Susan when I first saw it, and then saw it in a couple of other addresses currently in my Google Reader.  November is NaBloPoMo, essentially a post a day.

I'm in.  Sort of.  My initial reaction was one of confidence, believing I'll never, ever tire of sharing my photos, my witticisms, my experiences, my advice, knowledge, life lessons, art projects, gardening triumphs, creativity, love, travels, lunches, italian life, contrasts, child, husband, humor, house, home, book reviews. . . and here I am on November 2 -- feeling pretty empty.

Go Figure.
It might be a long (and boring) month, my friends.  See you tomorrow?

summer sunday: edenton, nc

Many moons ago when Mr. Duncan was an undergraduate, he did his student teaching in the quaint coastal town of Edenton, North Carolina;  this was his first visit since then.  Believe me, I heard:  "Things have changed," over and over and over again.  I would imagine that in a place like this that certain things have stayed the same as much as others have changed.  It is, nonetheless, beautiful.

Summer Sunday?
Wow.
We've just come down from a super-busy summer, and while I've tried to blog it a bit, I haven't had a chance to share many of the images, the hundreds of images I captured. I blog to share images, often to tell stories through images. I'm starting my own series: Summer Sunday; it may run short, may run long....may be regular, may be sporadic. So, if you stop by for a Sunday visit, be prepared.

do we have pera

We were having dinner Monday night when Maddy & I had a conversation, just like this (in a blend of the 2 languages --she does that a lot lately):

M:  Momma, do we have pera (pear)?
Me:  No.
M:  Momma, do we have mela (apple)?

Me:  No.
M:  What should we do?  You must have la frutta at the end of the dinner, Momma.  Every day at school we have first the pasta, and then the carne (meat), and then the verdura,  and then the pane, and then the frutta. We only drink l'aqua.   We must buy some pera, Momma.  It's how we eat, you know.

They do feed my baby girl very well, these Italians that I've entrusted her with for the last few years.

The next day I walked into our school lunch room and they were serving the kids:  corn dogs, canned corn, syrupy canned peaches.  It made me sick.

Mr. Duncan bought the pears today.

cowboy girl

Meet Jessie, our "cowboy girl," as Maddy calls her;  I'm just relieved that my kid doesn't feel the need to be a princess, and that a cowgirl is cool (even if she is still from Walt).

Halloween is being celebrated a day early in our little community.  Our be-freckled Jessie is ready for a rootin' tootin' good time this evening!  Hope you are too :)

jars from the recycle bin

While we carved pumpkins with large sharp knives, this project kept the five-year-old hands busy.

She created these luminaries with jars from the recycle bin and paints that were on the shelf, and she did most of it by herself.   Fine job, don't you think?  I love The Crafty Crow.
