facciamo il ponte

Il ponte:  bridge
It's also included in the expression used to explain the additional day often connected to official holidays -- Facciamo il ponte.
We are making the bridge.
OR
We are using Monday as the bridge to Tuesday, the official holiday, (in this case the Immaculate Conception), thus creating a lovely 4-day holiday weekend.
{Remember, Italians don't have those separation of church & state issues quite like we do.}

We usually arrange for other child care  as our employer doesn't recognize the bridge or the Italian holiday,  but we were unable to do so today.  I volunteered to sacrifice to be the one home with her & surprised her with breakfast in bed, which is a pretty special thing in her book, even if it's cold cereal with bananas.   Not soon after, a neighbor called, offering a play date -- I couldn't refuse.  I'm off to sort & wrap gifts for all the good boys and girls I know. The sacrifices I make, I tell you.

She is probably ready for the Junie B series. However, my favorites are the Judy Blume books such as Romana, Henry Huggins and Ribsy books. My favorite Christmas books are The Gift of the Magi, The Littlest Angel, The story of Holly and Ivy-this one makes you cry it is so sweet and tender. Olive the other Reindeer. Hope you enjoyed you day at home. Does Italy have Christmas markets like Germany?
