I spotted this odd vegetable in the Mercato Centrale in Florence last week. The most that I could get out of the not-so-friendly vendor is that it is of Indian origin.
It's called Goya in Japan...it's a big part of the Okinawan diet and it's an acquired taste...lives up to it's name of bitter melon, but supposedly the key to living 100+years!
