As I was scooping dough for cookies that are meant to be distributed to deploying members of our community, I thought of my good fortune. One HUGE reason I have to be thankful this holiday season is that, quite frankly, my husband is not an intended recipient of these cookies.
Selfish. I know.
Thoughtless. Maybe.
It's my reality, a reality that I've thought about quite a bit today. I attended a birthday party of a child whose mother is pregnant and whose father will leave for Afghanistan very soon -- for the 4th time.
I've thought a lot about their reality.
As you begin to count your blessings and your reasons to give thanks, please keep service members and their families in your thoughts. Forget about the politics. . . think about the people.
I do. . .but sometimes I need a reminder.
The cookies did it for me.

I agree we can all use a little reminder of how blessed we are and to be thankful for the men, women, and families who sacrifice so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy.
A post that is ofcourse very close to my heart. Thank you.
Beautiful thoughts, and those cookies look amazing. Still, I think someone should send cookies to your pregnant friend who's spent so much time home alone with small children. Bless her heart!
reminders are always good... those cookies look wonderful- i´m sure they will be much appreciated:)
Some of the older students handed out cookies and waved good-bye to the buses; one told me about it with tears in her eyes. Her dad is not scheduled to be on a bus this time, but it was a deeply moving experience for her nonetheless. It's going to be an interesting school year!
