Though we are mostly settled in & are living comfortably, there are some projects left undone: a few light fixtures, shelving for the little cantina, a fireplace, and a couple of other cosmetic to-do's.
As we live day to day, we generally don't notice them much, but they do lurk and occasionally remind us that the house is not finished. It's not okay to have a light bulb dangling from the ceiling or to have a gaping hole in the taverna in place of the future fireplace.
This is one of the cosmetic issues -- a seemingly unfinished look to the patio out front. Although concrete seems to be an acceptable "finish" in our neighborhood & I've come to embrace that, I could no longer bare this unsightly black, stained concrete.
So, I painted it. I don't know if I am supposed to paint concrete. I don't know if I chose the correct paint at the giant do-it-yourself store. I *think* I read the Italian label correctly, but perhaps I was supposed to dilute it with something. I don't know if I can remove the couple of stray drops caused by the playful kitten next door.

All doubts aside, it does look better now than before . . . even if it is a lighter shade of gray than I had imagined. Who knows what it might look like by January? Nothing a coat of paint can't fix. . . right?
Here's to progress! Hemming & painting in the same week. Mr. Duncan is safe and sound back home with us, so perhaps we'll get really crazy and install an exterior light today.

wow, that's some crazy plan for your weekend:)!
It's the little touches that make a house look and feel like home, I think.
Thanks for leaving comments on my blog, and in answer to your question my children are bi-lingual. The oldest is completely fluent in German. Love your new patio!
