broken hearts

TVB

So Marzia tells me that Maddy had a bad day Wednesday. Nothing seemed to go well or to be good enough, and there were many tears. Sadness filled my heart as she described Maddy's experience to me. It's partly because her dad is away, and she struggles a bit when he is not here. (God forbid that we should ever experience a deployment. Unfathomable to me.)

In the car she told me a different story:
"They called me a frigna, Momma. Even Chiara (best friend) wouldn't sit with me at lunch because I'm a frigna. It was a bad day. My heart is broken in many, many pieces."

She said that exactly. Broke my heart too . . . in many, many pieces.

Thursday went fine. Mr. Duncan returns today, so it'll be even better.

TVB=ti voglio bene=i love you (exact translation not possible -- i want you well)
una frigna= cry baby (maybe just a bit stonger, nastier. . not sure)

Poor sweety! She must have really felt her heart break to be able to describe it! Growing up can be painful sometimes ...
Deployment?!?
frigna=cry baby and whining

No deployments for us as we are civilians; however, we work closely with the people (or their kids, rather) who are serving our country and are routinely deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

ok, this comment doesn't go with this post! I just wanted to make sure you got it.... For the artichokes, I just used your regular old muffin tin. I put tinfoil down, but then noticed that my husband removed the foil.. so I guess it's not needed. You can try stuffing your mix dry and see how it goes, but I added some oil to it and made it wet.. it meant it stuck to my fingers a bit, but I was ok with that. I needed to wash my hands in b/w every artichokes, but...whatever! Also, I went a bit heavy on my hot pepper- yikes! so you may want to pay attention. Seriously, these are pretty easy so you'll be fine. Just drizzle on a bunch of oil and pop them on the grill! I soooooo hope they turn out for you!!!! And then drink with some Feudi Greco ;)

Also, you can email me at karenmlandes@hotmail.com

Ciao!!

Things are always harder when Daddies are gone. And oh so painful to see a broken heart. Enjoy your weekend together.
