who is a bona fide, card carrying, certified sommelier. He recently invited us to his home for a tasting of wines of the Valpolicella region of Italy.
The experience was interesting and certainly something that I'd like to do again.
Do you ever get that "Pinch me. I'm dreaming," sensation? That, "Who would have thought that this little Catholic Cajun girl from the Rural South who went to school to be a high school teacher would be sitting in the apartment of a sommelier in Northern Italy at 9:45 on a Saturday night in February trying to distinguish the scent of cherry, from that of dark chocolate, from that of licorice while searching for those scents buried in the bowl of one of four excellent wines as she savors cheeses carefully paired with the tastings . . . while discussing upcoming summer trips to Sardegna and the problems with Italian contractors. . . all the while feeling totally normal about it?" kind of feeling. (Please don't pinch me if I am dreaming.)
Sure beats suburbia.

I didn't realize we shared Cajun roots...I grew up in rural Vermilion parish. What about you?
Yes. That is how I found you -- the crawfish. Somewhere you were linked or posted or something, and the crawfish caught me eye immediately.
I am from St. James Parish . . . ummm, famous for Oak Alley Plantation and bonfires on Christmas Eve. I've been gone from there since 1990; however, I have strong roots there.
