Carnival

"Well, it's Carnival Time
Everybody's having fun!"

Did you know that many native Louisianans refer to Mardi Gras simply as "Carnival"?

The Carnival traditions and customs are in full swing in New Orleans (really, across much of South Louisiana) and have commenced here as well. It is not uncommon to spy young children in elaborate costumes tossing i coriandoli in le piazze in celebration of Carnevale; costumes are also a big part of the Carnival tradition in NOLA.

More on this later. . . .
because it's so much more than beer, beads, and boobies.

"It takes a cool cat to blow a horn."
Funny how music can take you to a place, isn't it?

Ok. You got me. I did pick up two carneval masks for the kids at IKEA! Oh, I'm soooo busted!!

Where in LA are you from? Did you grow up near Lucia? Or just know her via blog-sphere? I went to Loyola in NO from 93-97 :)

I have not actually met Luica, but I do adore her blog & have quickly become a faithful follower. (Is that strange?)

I'm from a small town in St. James Parish, right along the river. I was at LSU during the time that you were at Loyola. Maybe we stood next to each other for a parade Uptown?

Thanks for the comment about the pics. I used a Pioneer Woman action to achieve the b&w. She has two sets for Photoshop that she'll let you download absolutely free. Love that. Nice introduction to the world of ps actions.
