In a recent conversation with an Italian female friend she said:
"Today I had the most difficult time trying to get my colleagues [all Italian] to understand the concept of sexual harassment in the workplace."
It stopped me in my tracks and caused ROFL. (quite literally as we were on the floor already)
Some concepts just don't translate from one culture to another. This particular Italian woman is aware of the concept because of close relationships with Americans.
I dare say that much of what we would consider sexual harassment would be considered accepted, maybe expected, playful and innocent bantering to the average Italian.
Note: ROFL = roll on the floor laughing -- Being with teenagers for most of the day has its privileges.
