Christmas Day

Images from our Christmas Day

We woke early to open the presents. Oh, the presents!

We received several neighborhood visitors in the morning before heading out to meet friends at a restaurant where we spent a very long day -- probably won't do that ever again -- it's just not fun for a kid to spend Christmas Day at a table. Period. Maddy was an excellent little girl nonetheless. (Thank God!)

We joined the neighbors for dessert and several hands of UNO ("one" they kept calling the card game) and a few rounds of Tombola (think bingo) for money. It was so completely weird and so completely normal at the same time. You think you know your foreign language numbers until you try to cover four bingo cards while a Neapolitan woman with a mission to win calls the numbers. I got the feeling that speed was definitely a part of the game, and that glancing to double-check during the game was indeed not okay.

To end the night? Fluffly flakes of snow fell to blanket Lumignano

Words / Phrases I Learned & Will Likely Remember:

bluffare = to bluff
Chi tocca? = Whose turn is it? (I don't believe so much in exact translations. I work in the realm of the gist.) Mi tocca. = My turn.

Good Day

Hello and Merry Christmas! Thanks for the comment on my blog (I think everyone will be happy to know there is now a spy kit waiting under the tree :). So happy to have discovered your blog since we are preparing to move to Sicily this coming summer. Fun to see other expat families' Italian experiences. Love the pic of your angel in front of the red door. Happy New Year to you and your family.
