As the school librarian, I no longer suffer the annoying parents nor do I reap the benefits of the overly-appreciative parents.
However, Friday I met one such overly-appreciative parent of a new student with whom I often have contact.
She gave me a big bear hug & thanked me repeatedly.
It made my day.
Made my quarter.
Chances are. . . .made my year.
It's a good feeling -- making a difference in the life of a young person, and while as teachers we grow accustomed to intrinsic rewards, it is nice to encounter the overly-appreciative parent occasionally.
So -- write a note, send an email, bake some cookies, cut a flower from your garden -- even when it's not the official teacher appreciation week. It matters. A lot.
By the way. . .I do love her Baby Girl (junior in high school, but a Baby Girl nonetheless).
