Slovenia ~ Part 2

A drive up to Triglav National Park proved to be a feast for the eyes – and it was just short enough to escape the awful nausea Maddy and I often experience with such drives.

We weren’t prepared for serious hiking, but we did play in the forest a bit – a real treat for the young one who recently went on a field trip to a local “bosco” (forest) with her classmates.

Perhaps the highlight of our time was the visit to the Vintgar Gorge, the path for the Radovna River. Mother Nature at her finest.

The fresh trout from the nearby rivers was pretty darn good. I would say that we had a pretty decent culinary experience in Bled. (Note the art supplies -- essential when eating out with 4-year-old only child.)

The restaurant that we most enjoyed was Okarina – which proudly displays the autograph of one time visitor Sir Paul McCartney.

However, the celebrated food of the area is “kremna rezina” – a tasty, vanilla custard cream cake. This we got in a coffee shop. Yummy.

The Bled Castle (of Norman construction according to he who knows such things) which sits at the very edge of a cliff, provided a lovely panorama of the area.

I enjoy these trips for many reasons, one being that I have a pretty dang smart husband who enjoys history, and who is always ready to give a lesson, tell a story. Teachers. This trip's lesson -- Tito and Yugoslavia. (And, he is creative enough to just “make it up” in the event that he doesn’t know.)

We will certainly return. Any company?
