The residents of the “old town” section of Lumignano organized a block party this Saturday night. Richard estimates that roughly 120 or so people were there. We were introduced as the newest members on the block; already we’ve been called “the Americans who can speak Italian.” The other Americans have pretty good language skills as well, but I guess Richard’s are just a tad better – certainly not mine.
We met the parish priest. We dined under the stars. We danced. Yep, you can see me dancing it up with the parish priest (man dressed in dark clothes and wearing big cross) at one point. It was fun. Strange, but fun. We tuckered out and departed before the grand finale of fireworks. It is really nice to live in a real community. We will never truly fit in – we’ll always be the “stranieri,” but luckily, so far, the good folks of Lumignano have welcomed us. Luckily. So far.
