Daily Visits

Thursday morning the painting was about done, the tile guys were working on the entryway, the plumber was working on the caldaia preparing for the 10 days of heat, Giorgio was out supervising . . . . all was looking good.

Fillipo (neighbor guy) also happened to be there, and he told Richard that he could no longer give him a mortgage because his bank has been bought out by another bank and they've put a stop to mortgages for now. (huh ?) This is huge for Richard (remember . . . the world is falling apart) and now we have to go back to square one with another bank. The law is that the bank can only finance 80% of the price of the house for us (maybe because we are foreigners); to get 100% financing in order to best take advantage of our housing benefit (not to mention that we've put a great deal of cash into it with upgrades), we'll have to have it appraised at a value above the purchase price -- which is generally easy to accomplish, so they tell us. But, you never know, you just never know.
