you don't see panties hanging

Someone told me:

{The area of Napoli that is now home to the Vomero was once farmland, specifically farmland for broccoli (maybe friarielli ?).  With the passing of time the area has developed into one of the nicest or poshest areas in greater Naples.

The people have gained the reputation of being a bit uppity and not knowing much outside of their (vast and crowded) neighborhood.  Neapolitans from other parts of the city have come to refer to Vomero residents as Broccolo or Broccoli -- a reminder of their roots, if you will.}

We spent a Saturday there in October (for the few hours without rain), doing what we know to do best in the Vomero -- visiting the morning market, strolling the pedestrian zone, and soaking in the sun on the sidewalk of a cafe in Piazza Vanvitelli with old friends, enjoying one drink after another.  Good Times.  Almost made me ready to call the movers. . . almost.

IF we ever go back to live and work, this is where I would like to be.  Mr. Duncan has different ideas for The Party of Three; he could be persuaded with the perfect apartment, I'm sure.

Knowing only a couple of life-time residents of the Vomero,  I have absolutely nothing  to base the character of the people upon.  The one pictured with Maddy above is, in fact, a lovely woman, a woman who has dedicated much of her adult life to American teens, a woman partly responsible for Mr. Duncan & I being together today.

Uppity?  I don't know.  After living in Vicenza for five years. . . uppity is relative, I tell you.   The Vomero has a different feel to it than the rest of the city --- more genteel, more middle or upper class.  Just the fact that I learned the name (from Italians) with "the" included reveals a bit.  We don't say "the Casal di Principe" or "the Fuorigrotta."

You certainly don't see panties hanging outside of windows!

Somehow Napels for me is connected with Sofia Loren and yes...clothinglines. ;)But I would love to visit your new hot spot to see it for myself. Especially the market.
Maddy is just beaming with joy on that pic. So sweet.
