makes me happy

I can honestly say that I don't need a lot of "stuff" to make me happy; my husband may, however, disagree with that statement.  I have waited for nearly five years for a new table.  Finally, a few weeks ago the finances timing seemed right, so we headed to Rosa, a Northern Italian town which is sort of a center of furniture making.  At this shop in Rosa, I was able to pretty-much custom order a table for our family.

Last week, it arrived.  This table just makes me happy.  A nice sturdy walnut table custom-made to accommodate my tall husband (usually his knees touch) makes me happy. The nightly family dinners & soon-to-be homework sessions make me happy.  Maddy is currently sitting at the table practicing writing as I type,  complaining about the spelling of the word "Halloween":  how come it's not "i" instead of "ee" -- that makes me happy. The Thanksgiving dinner we will soon host with good friends sharing family recipes and traditions all gathered around the table makes me happy.

Don't you think a table is important?

(My absolute favorite part is the cane chair seats . . . love, love, love that detail!)

I'm jealous. A table is something I should have gotten while we were in Italy. Today we are picking up our new kitchen table -- I'm happy with it, but it isn't Italian. But it will be a step up from the card table we are using now.

Oh I love the table. Wow you waited 5 years for it - now that's patience.
Now to answer your question well - The table makes you happy so that's important and I'm sure all the memories it will contribute too will still make you happy.
So for this table yes - I think it's important!!

p.s I don't like the word Halloween either. I can never remember if it's with 2 l's or 1 etc. nope don't like that word!!(thank goodness for spell check)

Any chance you'll be back, Susan?

Five long years of "I hate this stupid table!" It was time.

The problem with spelling "Halloween" is that in Italian, the language she is first learning to read and write. . . the "i" sound is always like the sound in "ween" -- always, always, always. It gravely bothered her to not write it "Halowin."

I love your table. I wish I lived close by this little town. We have a table in our kitchen and another in our dinning room. I love when family and friends are around the table and double love when it is just my husband and me. xoxo

PS Dana did you see my email for next weeks CV topci? xoxo
