Young One @ the Mercatino in the Vomero
(October 2009)
She's not a fan of most weekly markets (nor am I), but this market in the Vomero was somehow different for her and different for me. . . but likely the same for Mr. Duncan, who took his task of keeping close watch of Maddy quite seriously in this very busy Saturday morning market. She just weaseled her way in for a spot at the table to rummage through the tarnished costume jewelry, no easy task in Southern Italy: elbows fly, hips bump, shoulders nudge -- all in the name of finding the best deal. She left without a special treasure, but I'm certain that the chance to finger each item was treat enough.
Maybe that's why we enjoyed this market -- everything in the South seems free, without restriction and rules, to include market rummaging.
