l'orto = vegetable garden

Mr. Duncan is enjoying tending his little garden patch, even though as of late the only available time is on Saturday & Sunday.

The cherry tomatoes have produced a few blooms; Maddy pops them in her mouth like candy -- another reason that I am thankful that we are able to live here. Why do the tomatoes taste so dang better than they do in the States? They do. Really. Lots. But why?

Ciao Dana!
Ciao e complimenti per il blog!!!
Grazie! I always welcome a grammar lesson. Always.

I'm way impressed with myself that I can read that Italian above. . .no problems! No why can't that just roll off of my tongue? What I wouldn't pay. . . .
The tomatoes here in Spain also taste better...
I'm impressed that I could read that Italian too:) But I'm more impressed by your new banner: it's spectacular! Is that your town? I think tomatoes taste good when they get ripe on a plant.
Our tomatoes are as good as any in the world when they first come in....Dad's plants are beautiful. We've been eating fresh potatoes, strawberries, onions, parlsey and even arugula from the garden. I hope the tomatoes are still good when you all get here in July.
Love to all - Mom
Of course, Grand Point Grandma, that excludes South Louisiana. Everyone knows that all things food-related are incredible there, and are equal to, if not superior, to all things Italian. And if they don't know, then it's because they have yet to taste what South LA has to offer. I've no doubt that the fruits of Dad's labor are indeed tasty. Can he grow some beans and rice? Maddy is asking.
Yes, Francesca. That's our little paese.
Maddy,
Red Beans and Rice is on Paw's menu for when you arrive.
Hello Dana, I stumbled on your blog searching for things to do in the Berici hills and Vicenza area. What a dream to live in Italy. I am from New York, and will be in the area on vacation, after attending a wedding in Verona. I was hoping you would know of a person/company or agency I can contact to find someone to take my family and I on a truffle hunt. I know it is a long shot but if you have any ideas, I appreciate them. Keep up the good work, I am now hooked on your great blog!
Eugene
Eugene,
I don't really know of one off hand, but I can ask around a bit. I'm pretty sure that there is a truffle season, but again, not real sure of the time. I'll see what I can dig up for you.
Dana
