Si dice pizz!

We have a neighbor family who is committed to learning to speak English, to include their little guy, who is nearly the same age as Maddy. When we see each other, which is almost daily (especially with the warmer weather), we practice Italian while they practice English. It works out well.

Lately, quite proud of his English vocabulary, Matteo has taken to frequently asking:
Sai come si dice forchetta in inglese
? Si dice fork.
Sai come si dice mela in inglese? Si dice apple.
And he continues until he exhausts his list of words that he knows, which is quite lengthy.

Over a pizza Friday night, Matteo decided to continue his line of questioning even beyond the words he really knows.

Sai come si dice pizza? Si dice pizz!

Sai come si dice macchina? Si dice macchin! (car)

Sai come si dice tavola? Si dice tavol! (table)

Just in the same way that an American would simply add a vowel (usually an "o" ) to the end of an English word to make it Italian, Matteo made the words English by dropping the final vowel. Clever, don't you think?

Needless to say Mr. Duncan & I continued the questioning with him until the point that neither he nor Maddy, who was correcting him at every turn, could take it anymore.

Love it!

LOL. The pictures are adorable. The little boys that live next to us always say, "Hello/Goodbye," when I say, "Ciao," to them.
