Riva del Garda

Tucked in the southern end of the Italian Alps at the northern shore of Lago di Garda sits the lovely little town of Riva del Garda. We recently spent a hazy, overcast day exploring the lakeshore.

What a pity that the weather was such! I've a feeling that this is a spectacular, incredibly beautiful part of Italy.

A bit of the unexpected. . . .tall palm trees guarded the Alpine lake.

When the pace of the stroll allows, this girl will never pass a chance to try out her balancing skills. La Zia was happy to oblige.

I imagine that the pristine lake must be absolutely full of swimmers and sun seekers in the warmer months.

It didn't take long for me to realize that this area of Italy in the province of Trento, perfect for biking, hiking, sailing, and wind surfing is a playground for the Germans & Austrians, who were everywhere I turned on this Easter weekend.
Thanks to Susan for introducing me to Riva del Garda in her blog, Have Love Will Travel.

I'm glad you made it! I wish the weather had been better for you guys, too. We took your advice yesterday and went the Guisti Berici with Michelle. It was fun, the kids loved the animals.

I like the mysterious look of your pics: the weather was good for that at least! I must confess I'm not too fond of lakes. Even though the Italian lakes are spectacular, and are part of our culture and literature (Manzoni, Fogazzaro etc), I love the salty smell of the sea, and the real rolling of its waves!
