Domesticity

My mother taught me many things, cooking was not one of them.

How to swing a bat, solve an algebraic equation, sterilize a bathroom, create an award-winning science fair project, block out under the goal, hang a ceiling fan, balance chemical equations -- yes, yes, yes.

Bake a cake? Never.
I probably would have objected even if she had tried.

I'm taking baby steps in my new-found hobby of baking. This weekend I made my first ever cake from scratch.

The recipe -- chocolate sour cream cake -- is from friend Phillis, retired art teacher, creative goddess extraordinaire.

It's a double layer with a butter cream frosting.
I daringly added the shaved chocolate.

Yep. I'm taking itty, bitty baby steps with sewing as well. I would absolutely love to be able to create this piece of art, and be so humble, so matter-of-fact about it. What a gift.

Thanks for linking to my quilt. I'm flattered. Your cake looks yummy. I have had to cut back on my baking hobby because my pants are getting too tight.
