NO IDEA
how happy, how relieved that (early literacy) makes me!
This week Maddy asked how to spell a word so that she could write it -
for the first time.
"Help," was the specific word.
So I dictated each letter as it sounds to her, and voila!
"HELP" -- in her little notebook in florescent marker.
To encourage more, I then worked with her on words like "cat," "bat," and "mat."
She quickly lost interest, and said,
"Momma, I just want to write 'people' or 'microphone,' just those words."
Huh?
We made it through "people" without her asking any serious phonics questions.
I saved "microphone," with its strange "ph" for Mr. Duncan for a later day.
And, she's still loving reading. We are a 3-book-a-night kind of family at this point.
Spying your four-year-old reading a book to her dolls and animals (and a couple of Power Rangers from next door) on her new yoga mat --

that's definitely a good thing.
