Recently family and friends of the two newest babies in the borgo, D and M, gathered to welcome the little ones into the Catholic church with the sacrament of baptism: “Il Battesimo.” We were honored when we were invited by R and C to join their celebration; I admit that I was also a tad bit curious as I’ve always heard about these celebrations but had never been actually invited to one. Baptisms are celebrated with nearly the same grandeur as weddings; Sunday was quite an event for little D and the people who love him.
We gathered at their home for a bit after mass, and then all (35 all together) headed to a restaurant for the Italian Sunday Lunch at Le Vescovane. (M's family hosted family and friends at home – more on that later.) There is nothing comparable in life to the Italian Sunday Lunch – nothing. So it figures that a Battesimo Italian Sunday Lunch should be quite special. . .and so it was. I’ll post my take on the quintessential Italian Sunday Lunch a bit later – until then, below are some photos of the day. I took nearly 300 photos, many of which were really bad. I am in the process of creating a photo surprise for the family.
